A BBQ without a hotdog is rather like salt without pepper or Minnie without Mickey - truly unthinkable! But unfortunately for us, these summertime favourites tend to be high in calories and low in nutrients.

That’s why we’ve created a recipe that trades your typical pork sausage for a chicken one.

Not only that, but this recipe ditches your traditional processed condiments for a more nutritious and flavourful topping.

This really is the perfect alternative for your next summer feast!

Swap the sugary ketchup for fresh spicy tomato salsa.

For 4 hotdogs, you’ll need:

Pop your chicken sausages on the BBQ and leave to cook as per packet instructions.

Whilst they’re sizzling away, it’s time to get making your spicy salsa. Simply grab a blender and pulse the tomatoes, spring onions, chilly, garlic and coriander together – don’t go too heavy with the pulsing - you still want some chunks! Now scrape the mixture into a bowl and add the lime juice and Tabasco before seasoning with a little salt and pepper.

Once your chicken sausages are cooked all the way through, grab your finger roll and get constructing your hotdog. If the salsa is too spicy, cool things down a with a small dollop of soured cream, a serving of smashed avocado, or a sprinkle of grated mozzarella.

So, there you have it! Not a drop of processed ketchup or pork in sight!

This BBQ favourite is sure to blow your traditional hotdog right out of the water – enjoy! Remember to follow us on Instagram for more recipe ideas and inspiration.
