We all know the importance of drinking plenty of water , but is drinking it's carbonated fizzy counterpart actually bad for you?

It is now a well-known fact that consuming sweet fizzy drinks is not a good habit. If you leave a coin in a glass of cola for several hours, you will notice it comes out looking radically different. Fizzy or sparkling water contains phosphoric acid which according to some health experts, can be harmful for human health.

However, there is no clear evidence to prove this point. Even the experts who make this claim cannot prove it. If you drink fizzy water containing carbon dioxide speedily, it can cause indigestion. But there is no evidence that it can cause damage to the stomach even if consumed at a normal pace.

In a case study, patients suffering from constipation were assigned to drink sparkling water and tap water for 15 days.1 After the completion of the prescribed days, a series of tests were conducted and the people drinking sparkling water showed improvement. Those drinking simple water showed no improvement. This study revealed that sparkling water is not harmful for health. It has the power to treat some diseases.

Drinking a lot of sparkling water can make you feel overstuffed. This is also growing as the major side-effect of these drinks. But the researchers in Japan suggest that this side-effect can be used as an advantage. Sparkling water can be used to treat stomach and gas problems. Fizzy water has been suggested as a way to avoid overeating, because it makes you feel fuller.

In order to make you realize the importance of fizzy water, following are some benefits of fizzy water:

Hydrates your body

Sparkling water hydrates your body as well as regular water. Some people are of the view that fizzy water can dehydrate your body. This is not true, especially when you drink in balance. Larger intake of caffeinated beverages can cause dehydration though but not smaller amounts. Your body needs 500mg of caffeine daily. You should drink about 64 ounces of sparkling water to keep yourself hydrated.

Lowers blood pressure

Sparkling water helps to keep your blood pressure low. These drinks contain magnesium which keeps the blood pressure stable. Some brands also offer drinks with higher levels of magnesium and calcium. If you have low magnesium level in your body, you should benefit from drinking sparkling water.

Helps in weight loss

Sparkling water helps to lose weight. It helps to improve the digestion system and makes you feel full. By doing so, you do not overeat and try to maintain your diet. Thus your weight loss goals are achieved much faster than with the help of medicines.

From the above advantages it is clear that sparkling water is not only harmful for the health. It also has some benefits. If consumed in smaller amounts, it can help you stay healthy and active without changing your eating habits. Excess of anything is hazardous and so is the excess consumption of sparkling water. You should always keep that in mind.
